Challenge # 1: Holding on to Stress
"My biggest struggle is holding on to stress for things outside of my control. It affects my physical, spiritual, emotional, and occupational well-being, and it’s a persistent burden."
Primary Goal: "To live healthy (diet, sleep, mind-frame, spirituality) and be able to identify and change negative influences."

Solutions to Challenge # 1: Holding Stress
What's Really Going On: Stress in a natural response to everyday life. When you allow stress to rule your life, you are not able to stabilize your emotions, and that can negatively effect your decision making and thought process.
Stress often leads to mild paranoia and other complications in our everyday thought patterns and causes us to look at ourselves or others around us in negative and fearful ways. We may accuse ourselves and others of keeping us back or holding us down away from our goals in finance, fitness, and social spheres.
We may be holding onto past trauma's and believe that the trauma is holding us back from what we want today. Stress, when held onto inside for long periods of time, even can lead to physical conditions like muscle problems, heart complications, stroke, acne, and extreme fatigue.
Parasympathetic nervous system response (i.e. relaxation, healing, digestion) vs. sympathetic nervous system response (i.e. high stress, fight or flight) is something to keep in mind.
Mindfulness Remedies: During the onset of the feeling of stress, walk or simply turn away from what you are doing and listen to your heart for at least one full minute. Take time to find stillness, come back to center, and sit with yourself. Observe not only your body but also what is going on right now in the moment. Bring your awareness to your senses. What do you smell, see, hear, taste, and feel.
Doing this, you leave behind the mind and the thoughts causing you stress. This helps you bring your awareness back to the present and begin to strengthen your connection with yourself (your Self, i.e. the greater, infinite, aspect of you that underlies and connects everything that you perceive and are not yet aware of)
Medicinal Herbal Remedies:
Herbs should be organic and/or wild-crafted. Herbs can be eaten fresh, brewed into a tea.
Dietary/Digestive Remedies:
Eat organic, non-GMO foods
Cut down on meat (or for some cut meat out entirely).
Enrich your diet with fresh, raw fruits and leafy greens that are rich in B-vitamins and vitamin C
Restful Remedies:
Carve out time for self-care
Get sufficient rest
Challenge # 2: Weight Gain
"Definitely weight loss. I’ve hit a major plateau. Finding that balance while breastfeeding my twins has proven a little difficult."
Primary Goal: "To be a healthy weight. To meditate daily. And to really connect with myself and my purpose."

Solutions to Challenge # 2:
What's Really Going On: Gaining weight doesn't automatically mean you are unhealthy. Why many women gain weight while nursing: adrenal fatigue from lack of sleep and high-stress.
Nursing mothers release a hormone called prolactin that increases the appetite because you need extra nutrients per day to feed to your child. Eating foods that lack necessary nutrients will further fuel your cravings to eat, and lead to weight gain.
Medicinal Herbal Remedies:
Herbs should be organic and/or wild-crafted. Herbs can be eaten fresh, brewed into a tea
Dietary/Digestive Remedies:
Eat plant-based foods packed with nutrients (proteins, vitamins and minerals)
Try green, chlorophyll-packed herbal supplements
Fasting
Intermittent fasts (in between meals eliminating snacks and constant sipping or drinking water/juice/soda).
Aids in digestion process
Helps your body send clearer messages about what you just ate and what it needs.
Fasting from specific harmful foods in stages (i.e. today cut out pork and red meat, next month cutting out poultry, next soda and refined sugars, then dairy products, etc.,)
Taking your time alleviates extreme withdraw symptoms
Helps reduce cravings
Full fasts and Micro fasts (3 days, 7 days, 21 days, 40 days, 90 days)
100% juice (not from concentrate), alkaline water, and herb brews
Mindfulness Remedies:
Listen to your body. Use intentional breathing as a tool to activate your intuition
Before a meal and about an hour after a meal ask yourself "how has my body reacted to this food?" Using your experiential knowledge, implement new habits based on what your body tells you in response to food
Take moments in your day to observe how you feel in regards to your weight.
Food cravings are often rooted in emotional and spiritual needs as well as how you view yourself
Practice mindful yoga (i.e. Kemetic yoga, etc.) or or other mindful exercises (Qi Gong, Tai Chi, etc.) to stimulate your parasympathetic nervous systems healing response
Restful Remedies:
Get as much rest as possible (your body does most of it's self-healing in a restful state
Challenge # 3: Acne
"Acne."
Primary Goal: "Clear scars and acne forever."
- Submission kept anonymous upon request -
Solutions to Challenge # 3:
What's Really Going On: Acne is the presence of oil and dead skin cell buildup under your skin.
Your body is trying to release toxins, cope, and send out warning signals about a hormonal imbalance. Stress, lack of sleep, your eating habits (high in starch, hormones, and processed sugars/foods), certain medications (birth control, mental health, etc.) increase androgen hormonal levels.
Acne scars and cysts come from oily makeup, working in environments with heavy grease, scrubbing/cleansing too hard, harsh soaps and chemicals, lack of moisturization, etc.
Medicinal Herbal Remedies:
Herbs should be organic and/or wild-crafted. Herbs can be eaten fresh, brewed into a tea, and/or topically applied to skin.
Dietary/Digestive Remedies:
Alkalize your body:
Drink alkaline water / reverse osmosis water / natural mineral water
Consume raw, leafy greens and fresh fruits rich in B-vitamins and C
Foods should be organic and non-GMO where possible
Mindfulness Remedies:
Carve out time for you to practice self-care and bring yourself back to center (emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually)
Take moments in your day to breathe and observe how you feel
Practice mindful yoga (i.e. Kemetic yoga, etc.) or or other mindful exercises (Qi Gong, Tai Chi, etc.) to stimulate your parasympathetic nervous systems healing response
Restful Remedies:
Make rest and recharging a priority
Challenge # 4: Eating Habits
"Struggle [with] gaining weight, raised omnivore, and wanting to go vegetarian...lazy/afraid to do so. Right now, I just limit/avoid meat. This is a diet issue and also tied to morality as I believe eating flesh is messed up... but yet I'm addicted, I guess."
Primary Goal: "Peace, clear energy, moral clarity, physical vitality and flexibility/endurance."
- Submission kept anonymous upon request -
Solutions to Challenge # 4:
What's Really Going On: Food is addicting. That is the truth.
Eating, gaining energy, tasting great flavor, and the feeling of instant satisfaction we get when we are full is an addicting process that feels good. Often times we need to be reminded of this in order to move forward with our goals surrounding our wellbeing and health.
Incorporating healthy food into our diet can feel like we are taking away from good taste and the feeling of being full. This is okay and normal.
On the path to "eating to live" (as opposed to eating to feel full or as an impulse) one must only work as fast and as hard as they can. No need to rush into restricting yourself when you are fearful of doing so; working towards a diet that fits your goals and morals in baby-steps.
Peace, clean energy, moral clarity, and physical endurance and flexibility all are heavily tied to dietary habits. Be accepting of your current habits to avoid self-shaming when you move to change those habits.
