'Who AM I...?'

As we know with all things in life, to get the best results, there must be involvement in developing a self-awareness practice on your own terms...

Welcome to #MUVEMondays where YOU get answer and solutions to your biggest wellness concerns! We are not here to teach you so you learn, but instead, here to point so you discover...

The #MUVEMondays series is the rooted in SELF, so don't intend to give advice that is some kind of unachievable, “magic bullet” cure-all, but instead, we intend to point out your own power and capability to change your own life the way you see fit. We share relevant mindfulness, herbal, dietary remedies, etc. from our definitive healing system, Kemetic EIO.

What you'll discover on the show this week:

You'll discover holistic solutions to top wellness challenges in two major areas of discussion rooted in self-awareness: (1) Who AM I? (the BIG question) and (2) How to become present and calm the mind.

Here are a few helpful tips to ease your transition and deepen your understanding of how powerful and capable you truly are in pursuit of your freedom……

"Sometimes, the mind criticizes our every move.

It says we're either moving too fast, too slow, too much, or not enough.

In these moments, we may be tempted to invest in the mind's activity...

But... if we're still...

We may come to notice that we have the power to watch this mind's activity WITHOUT the investment...

So, as you move through life...

Pay attention to THAT which notices the mind's activity without the investment...

Ask yourself... " Who is the witness?"

... Namaste."

Challenge # 1: Who AM I?

"#1 question about how to experience optimal levels of wellbeing through yoga, after 26 years of practice and 17 years of teaching is still: Who am I? If I am divine and infinite, then am I making choices that come from this knowledge, this divine self, or am i making choices from my imbalanced/clouded self?"

Primary Goal: Knowing and Discernment

Solutions to Challenge # 1:

What's Really Going On:

Between what our parents teachers and friends told us about ourselves as children and what we have chosen to believe about ourselves as we grow, sometimes the concept of the self gets over complicated. When someone asks us who we are in a way that looks past the name and job and orientation etc., we often are taken aback for a moment and are forced to see that we may not truly know... But there's something inside of you that knows exactly what and who you are. Involvement, still, is key, but when it comes to the questioning “who” is the TRUE SELF, we may need some guidance in order to look beyond what our conditioning tells us about the answer. When we were young we received a name, but we are not simply our names. We received a body even before that, but we are not simply our bodies. We received a mind to interpret even before that, but we are not simply our interpretations, thoughts, or emotions. When performing any task in life it usually requires effort but when it comes to self-inquiry, any effort that is exerted is a bit counterproductive. Due to the fact that we grow our bones, beat our heart, breathe, digest, grow our hair, create dreams, and many other things unconsciously we know that we are more than our attention can keep track of, but is there a way to get to the bottom of all of this?

Great news! Yes there is.

If you are open and willing to observe yourself as is, in the present moment, without identifying with the thoughts, feelings, anxieties, and names you know in your mind to be “yours” but not “you” and you keep the attention on what remains still in the face of the changing world, you are brought experientially to who you are before those attachments. Before you felt like something, YOU were there to feel. Before you thought you were something, YOU were there to think. Before you believed strongly in an idea you have about yourself, YOU were there to believe.

Mindfulness Remedies:

  • Discover the part of you that isn’t attached

  • When you discover it, don’t “give it to the mind”-- remain empty of memories, goals, worries, the feeling of “what’s next” and expectations in the present moment

  • Naturally and without effort-- observe this. The more you observe yourself in this space, the more you will strengthen your discernment powers and are able to rely on your inner-wisdom for answers

  • Keep your attention on the heart.

  • What do I want to be involved in now? What AM I involved in now? How does my energy behave without me exerting ANY effort?

  • Meditation and Listen inward. Inquire using the senses. Use intentional breathing as a tool to activate your intuition.

  • Ask who is seeing behind the eyes? Who can hear the sounds around me? Who is feeling the environment here?

  • Practice mindful yoga (i.e. Kemetic yoga, etc.) or other mindful exercises (Qi Gong, Tai Chi, etc.) to stimulate your parasympathetic nervous systems healing response. You will make time (even if it's just 5-15 minutes per day), if you are serious about supporting your journey

Medicinal Herbal Remedies:

Herbs should be organic and/or wild-crafted. Herbs can be eaten fresh, or brewed into a tea. Sage can also be burned, of course.

Dietary/Digestive Remedies:

  • Eat organic, non-GMO foods

  • Cut down on meat (or for some cut meat out entirely). A plant-based diet packed with nutrients is ideal

  • Enrich your diet with fresh, raw fruits and leafy greens that are rich in B-vitamins (as well as moringa, spirulina, and chlorella) and vitamin C (ex: camu camu)

  • Apply food-combining principles and consume alkaline-forming foods

  • Fasting

  • Intermittent fasts (in between meals eliminating snacks and excessive frequent sipping or drinking water/juice/soda).

  • Aids in digestion process

  • Helps your body send clearer messages about what you just ate and what it needs.

  • Fasting from specific harmful foods in stages (i.e. today cut out pork and red meat, next month cutting out poultry, next soda and refined sugars, then dairy products, etc.,)

  • Taking your time alleviates extreme withdrawal symptoms

  • Helps reduce cravings

  • Full fasts and Micro fasts (3 days, 7 days, 21 days, 40 days, 90 days)

  • 100% juice (not from concentrate), alkaline water, and herb brews

  • Food cravings are often rooted in emotional and spiritual needs as well as how you view yourself

Restful Remedies:

  • Upon waking up, try to realize what was there even before the sense of “I am” was identified with. Upon going to sleep, contemplate this: what is it in you that watches consciousness slip away?

  • Use the mindful remedies and self inquiry tools to build a trust with the universe that allows you more time to not become too busy for proper balance between activity and rest.

Challenge # 2: Being Present & Calming the Mind

Submission 1:

"I work full time AND teach. [My biggest wellness challenge is] basically really how to grow… How to maintain a regular practice as a teacher... How to advance my own practice…I’m always rushing and not really present. I have a lot to get done in 1 day to include time with my 4 year old that is meaningful. I have to grade papers, create lesson plans, plus my teacher union work. [I’m] just stretched, and I am always behind."

Primary Goal: "Balance in life as well as flexibility… Discipline on and off the [yoga] mat. Mindfulness. Slowing down… and of course, I want to “HIT” certain poses and pat myself on the back when getting there."

Submission 2:

"For me it’s just showing up and being present. Checking in with and honoring where I’m at... which is a struggle."

Primary Goal: Honor one’s self and remain present.

Submission 3:

"How to meditate or still the mind."

Primary Goal: Overcome mind noise.

Submission 4:

"I have been working on calming my mind through yoga and Tai Chi. My question would be: How does one modify their yoga routine to optimize the mental relaxation? Is there a specific pattern to help focus your clarity? I like to change it up."

Primary Goal: Mental relaxation, clarity, and discernment.

Solutions to Challenge # 2:

What's Really Going On:

Within the fields of self-help and meditative practice “be in the present moment” is a phrase that can seem to be impossible to apply. When you have a billion tasks on a to-do-list, children to care for, and financial issues to deal with, the mind calls us to the past and the future all day and night. How can we arrive at the present?

“If you wait for the pain to leave, you strengthen the belief in that pain being yours.”

In reality, nothing happens and no one exists outside of the present moment and that is an important fact to approach this topic with because the issue here is that we identify with that which can be not in the present. We identify with the mind and the personal story we remember from our past, but we are not those thoughts and are in fact so much more.

Have you ever noticed how a simple hug or good belly-laugh takes away our anxieties in the present moment? This is part of the reason why we are so much more than what we identify with in terms of our life’s stories, or our bodies.

Look around you for a moment right now… observe both the inner space and the environment you currently are in (while reading this sentence).

Are there any problems here? Right now? Hopefully you are open to seeing that the only problems we ever have only exist in the mind. All problems stem from a false identity with the mind or what some call the body-mind.

You are greater than the issues stemming from this identity crisis and all its symptoms. In the SELF there is no yesterday, last year, or past trauma. In the SELF there is no bills to be paid, pain to get over, or movements to be accountable for.

Discover for yourself what it is within yourself that watches your attention constantly moving your focus upon problems and troubles… then drop any identity that is attached to it.

Medicinal Herbal Remedies:

Herbs should be organic and/or wild-crafted. Herbs can be eaten fresh, or brewed into a tea. Sage can also be burned, of course.

Mindfulness Remedies:

  • Try to refrain from tumbling down fearful trains of thought and practice gratitude

  • Meditate and Listen inward. Use intentional breathing as a tool to activate your intuition.

  • Don’t identify with the fearful beliefs you have about the relationship you have with the body-mind.

  • You have the power to discern what thoughts are from the SELF and what thoughts are from conditioning/habit.

  • You have the power to look inwardly and take notice of that which is not budged by struggle and anxiety.

  • Take moments in your day to observe how your body and mind feel. Refrain from identifying with anything in these moments and be as you were when in the womb.

  • This requires absolutely no effort

  • Keep your attention on the heart.

  • What do I want to be involved in now? What AM I involved in now? How does my energy behave without me exerting ANY effort?

  • Practice mindful yoga (i.e. Kemetic yoga, etc.) or other mindful exercises (Qi Gong, Tai Chi, etc.) to stimulate your parasympathetic nervous systems healing response. You will make time (even if it's just 5-15 minutes per day), if you are serious about supporting your journey

  • Designate an hour of time to find stillness and involve yourself in coming to center

  • Use the mindful remedies and self inquiry tools to build a trust with the universe that allows you more time to not become too busy for proper balance between activity and rest

Key Takeaway:

Discover for yourself who you are. Don’t take your mind’s word for it. It all comes down to your own pursuit of freedom.

Life is a journey of self-discovery therefore great is the man who keeps the attention on the heart.

So, use the power of discernment to rid yourself of false identity with the body-mind and live from the aspect of yourself that is infinite and unwavering.
